Application was for a stainless steel parts washing process.
Situation: Customer had five 1500 gallon tanks full of Deionized (DI) water being heated by stationary sheathed elements at the base of each tank. The water needed to be at least 130° F. The tanks were being introduced with 5 gpm of new DI water to keep the quality of the water high. However, the ambient water coming into the tanks was bringing the temp down too low—as the existing heaters could not maintain the temperature. They had long cycle times to get the water in the tanks up to 130°, and were looking for a solution that would give them faster cycle times with unlimited hot DI water.
Our solution: We mounted two 108 KW SpecAdvantage heaters on a skid with a flat plate heat exchanger. Each heater would work 2 hours at a time, on a closed loop system, with a pump for each heater and a timer. The 60° DI water is pumped into the flat plate heat exchanger on one side as our 170° water is pumped through the other side. The DI water never touches our heater, which in turn preserves the life of our heater.
